Media Relations Agency: Direct, Journalist-Led PR

Credible stories, experienced editorial judgement and targeted outreach to the people who decide what gets published.

You may have a capable business, a knowledgeable founder and something worth saying, yet still struggle to explain it in a form journalists can use. Media relations is the work of finding that connection. At Fair Public Relations, we develop stories and expert commentary, identify suitable journalists, approach them directly and follow up responsibly. Editorial decisions remain entirely with the publication.

What does a media relations agency actually do?

Media relations is more than emailing a press release. It means understanding the subjects journalists cover, their audiences and the evidence they need, then presenting useful information at the right time.

That can be a clear business announcement, informed comment on a topical development, original insight or a real-life story that stands up to checking.

The best media relationships depend on trust.

We do not tell reporters how to write their stories and we do not promise clients that a pitch will become a feature.

We aim to be responsive, accurate and relevant because those are the qualities that make future editorial conversations possible.

How Fair PR finds and pitches stories

We start with the substance of the client:

  • what they know

  • what they do

  • what has genuinely changed

  • who might find it interesting

We work on angles and useful quotations, then identify the outlets, sections and journalists for whom the topic is a fit. We write pitches that are easy for a busy reporter to assess, make appropriate follow-ups and handle questions or interview requests.

We pitch directly to journalists. Third-party journalist request marketplaces are part of the wider PR landscape, but are not our operational campaign-delivery model.

Good PR requires editorial judgement, not a claim that sending hundreds of identical emails will produce a guaranteed return.

Expert comment, news and real stories

A specialist can be useful when journalists need a credible explanation of a public issue.

A company announcement can work when it has wider commercial relevance.

A customer or founder story may be interesting when the people involved are willing to speak and the circumstances can be verified.

We choose the approach based on evidence and media interest, not because every campaign must contain the same number of each kind of material.

What good media relations results look like

An appropriate specialist article, useful interview or well-placed comment can be valuable even if the outlet is smaller than a national title. We look at relevance, accuracy, audience and whether the coverage supports the profile you want to build.

When a publication includes an editorial link, that may provide referral and SEO value, but links cannot be purchased or promised as part of independent coverage.

We report pitches and progress honestly and distinguish editorial interest from completed coverage.

Search rankings, AI citations, enquiry volume and sales are influenced by many factors beyond PR.

Who should use a media relations agency?

Businesses with substantive news, knowledgeable spokespeople or useful industry insight are often good candidates.

If you primarily need paid advertising, technical SEO, influencer sponsorship or control over the final article, a journalist-led earned-media agency is not the right supplier.

Our Standard PR retainer gives you ongoing campaign and outreach support instead of isolated distribution.

Evidence and editorial judgement, not guaranteed placement

Our campaigns draw on newsroom experience and a body of genuine case-study work.

To see what client campaigns have involved, explore our case studies and media coverage examples.

A conventional earned-media case study is not evidence of guaranteed results for a different client. Some independent placements include editorial links, but neither backlinks nor coverage volumes can be promised.

What does working with Fair PR cost?

We don't sell a separate media relations agency package.

Suitable businesses use our ongoing Standard PR service: £797 per month in the UK, US$997 per month in the US, or CAD$1,497 per month in Canada, subject to the current service description and terms.

The initial commitment is three months.

This covers agreed journalist-led campaign activity, writing, outreach and account-managed support. Editorial publication, backlinks, AI citations, traffic and commercial enquiries cannot be guaranteed.

Tell us your story

You don't need a ready-written press release to enquire. We want to understand what your business does, what your spokesperson can substantiate, which audiences matter to you and the media opportunities you believe might be relevant. We'll look at whether there is a credible PR fit before suggesting a conversation.
